Meet our Pastor

Pastor Philip believes that faith is best lived out in community, kindness, and meaningful connection. A native of Houston, Texas, and graduate of Texas A&M University, Philip’s journey into ministry was not something he originally planned. What began with a simple opportunity to preach on Scout Sunday became a calling that continued to grow through service as a Certified Lay Speaker, Certified Lay Minister, and ultimately as a Pastor. Along the way, he discovered a passion for sharing God’s love and helping people recognize the many things that unite us rather than the differences that can divide us.

Philip and his wife, Ernestine, have called Mesa home since 1998. Ernestine, who was raised on the Navajo Nation and graduated from Arizona State University, shares Philip’s commitment to faith, family, and service. Together they have raised three children and continue to enjoy life with their four beloved cats.

At Desert Chapel, Pastor Philip strives to create a welcoming environment where everyone feels seen, valued, and encouraged in their faith journey. He enjoys thoughtful conversations, finding connections between scripture and everyday life, and helping people discover how God’s presence can be found in both extraordinary and ordinary moments. When he’s not preparing sermons or serving the congregation, you’ll often find him in his workshop pursuing his love of woodworking—an activity that continually reminds him that patience, care, and craftsmanship can transform simple pieces into something beautiful and lasting.
